You can have your printed circuit boards assembled in two ways: either online with the help of our quick online price calculation or by custom quote. The online price calculation online offers a convenient way with many advantages.

To use our Magic-BOM® tool simply drag your Altium (*.PCBDOC), Target 3001! (*.T3001) and EAGLE (*.brd and *.sch file) into the corresponding Drag & Drop fields in the online price configurator.

After your file is loaded, an upload bar appears in which we inform you about the status of the upload.

All component positions are clearly displayed in the "Overview" window. Add the components that match your layout to your BOM.

You can reach our employees personally in the live chat and under "Help" we provide you with further information such as FAQs and a telephone number for direct contact.

In addition to important information on position, reference, package (also called "footprint") and value, the number of components placed is added to the total number of components under "Placed". B. 0/4 = 0 of 4 components.

Under "Provided by me" you can choose whether you want to send us a component and we will assemble it for you.

If you click on "Add", the "Component Details" window opens.

In this window we present you with a proposal for a suitable component from our stock (beta stock). If we cannot immediately display a result for you in “Component details“, the “Find component“ section appears (see 4.).

On the left under “Suggested component“ important technical values, a component description and prices are shown.

In the “Placement“ area you can choose whether you want to provide the component yourself. You can also determine which components get placed.

If you click “Find another component“, the “Find component“ area appears.

On the right you can place your component or deselect the placement and choose the option that you provide a component.

You can perform the search in “Find component“ with “Package“ and „Value“. For optimal search results we recommend the following:

• an MPN number (unique number that is assigned by the manufacturer to identify individual products and usually consists of a series of numbers and letters. This number may also be called the manufacturer part number or similar) or

• a SKU number (number that is assigned to a product in order to identify various parameters of the goods. A SKU number is not universal, but differs from provider to provider, since providers and suppliers assign their own SKU numbers).

You can use these numbers, as well as a description, in the “Extended component search“ field.

If the search was successful and you get a result, you will be taken to the “Component selection“ window, where you can choose one or more components. Add the right component. Now click on “Add“ for the selected component.

You will be taken once again to the “Component details“ window, where all values of the selected component are clearly displayed.

If necessary, you can also enter a comment indicating that we should purchase the component, but not place it, and ship these with the manufactured PCBs.

Confirm with “Accept & Continue“.

Should you unfortunately not receive any result, you will have to provide the necessary components.This is possible in the section “Provide component“.

The successfully edited component positions of your BOM are marked with a dark green button and an OK check mark.

If no selection has been made for a component position, the button is still yellow.

You can edit your components at any time, e.g. looking for another component, changing the placement, choosing the option of providing the component yourself, etc.

After you have added the required components to your BOM, click on “Next“ to go to the “Component positions“ window.

• Ordered and placed by Beta LAYOUT

• Provided by you and placed by Beta

• Not placed

From the column “Total Qty + Superset“ you can see which superset quantity of components will be sent to you together with the finished assembly order. Read more about this in the FAQ.

If everything is OK in the “Component positions“ window, click on “Confirm BOM“.

You will receive the BOM as a free Excel sheet if you confirm this.

Choice of MAGIC-BOM® in the PCB-POOL® configurator

After confirming the BOM, you return to the PCB-POOL^® configurator. To the right of the MAGIC-BOM logo you have the option to use or reject the BOM with “Yes“ or “No“. You can also edit your BOM again if necessary.

When you are satisfied with the BOM you have created, add it to the shopping cart together with the PCB.

In the shopping basket you can see your PCB in the list on the right, with the various options.

The next section contains the “Components“ position, which represents the result of using the MAGIC-BOM^®.

Here you can choose whether you want to see the details of your components, edit the BOM (you return to the MAGIC-BOM^®) or whether you want to delete the BOM.

Caution: If you delete your BOM, you remove all information that you have stored in your BOM!

Is my work saved?

With every order you will receive your BOM as an Excel sheet by email.

If you have not yet ordered and you may want to process your BOM in several steps, also on different computers and at different times, this is also possible.

For this purpose, we will automatically save your component list during processing and then for 30 days.

If you have not completed your BOM and have had to cancel it, this is not a problem!

Simply drag your data back into the corresponding drag & drop fields on our website or in the configurator and your BOM will be loaded again after the upload.

Now you can continue working from where you had left off.

Attention: The BOM can only be restored if the file is unchanged.

How do I provide components?

It is possible for you to also supply the components for your order.

Please ensure to provide the correct components in packaging which is suitable for automatic machine placement.

The components must also have a lead of > 24 mm, unfortunately we cannot accept individual components supplied as “snippets“.

You can also edit the component selected and change how the component will be supplied at any time by using the using the “Overview“ window.

In the field “Comments“ you have the possibility to send us further important information.

- An assembly aid (e. g. cap) is absolutely necessary for

plugs, sockets and pin headers

- In the case of components that you have provided, you must also ensure that they are properly packaged and have been stored and delivered in a dry state (see

IPC / JEDEC J-STD-020D; IPC / JEDEC J-STD-033B.1).

With older components, where this is not the case, it can e.g. lead to problems with the solder joints.

- The assigned components are assigned using the MAGIC-BOM, so please label the packaging of the components with the appropriate description from the “References“, “Package“ and “Value“ fields in the “Component information“ section of the “Component details“ field (e. g: C5, C7, C8, C10, C11), C / CO805 / 100nF).

Why do I have to pay a superset?

This question arises from time to time.

“Superset quantity” refers to the excess components that we cannot use, but have to charge for.

Automatic pick and place machines require a certain lead in the belts that contain the components in order to be able to feed the components into the machine.

As an example, an IC component is a relatively large sized component and an excess of one component would be acceptable for machine set-up.

In the case of a resistor 0402, the number of excess components required is higher because there are relatively many small components contained in the component belt.

This lead, along with the components, will unfortunately no longer be usable after assembly.

How do I optimize the component search?

If you don‘t get a result you can try to change the entered terms, e.g. by changing the spelling of the term:

The fields “Package“ and “Value“ must have a readable value such as e. g. “10 nF“ and no terms such as “capacitor“ or similar component names.

Please also note that we only purchase components from certain distributors, your component may not be provided by this distributor.

However, you can get alternative components displayed by our search if you enter the corresponding designations in the input fields.

When using the MAGIC-BOM, a suggestion is made for the components that we have in stock, which you can accept with "Accept & Continue".

However, components may not be found or you may want to provide another component.

If no suitable component is found from our inventory, two fields appear automatically: "Find component" and "Advanced component search" in the "Component details" window.

The window can also be called up via "Choose another component" if you have received a suggestion from us but prefer another component.

The designation assigned to the component, which we take from your layout, is automatically inserted into the two fields "Package" and "Value". If you click on "Find component", the "Select Component to add" window opens. At the top is the "Suggested component MAGIC-BOM", highlighted by a yellow bar. This is the component suggested from our stock.

- Further component suggestions

Under "Other component suggestions" you can use the additional parameters capacitance, resistance and voltage to further narrow down the search results.

The components found by MAGIC-BOM are listed in a table. If you click on "Add" here, you will return to the "Component details" window.

Important information about the component is now listed under "Selected component details" in the middle of the window. A link takes you to the supplier's website. Under "Remarks" you can provide us with additional information.

If no result is found, you have the option to search with changed entries.

Designation advice

Often the name or value may not be very suitable for searching, such as the word "resistance" in the field "value".

At this point it is recommended to check your layout for possible improvements in the name. As already mentioned, these can be custom names, swopped numbers, missing spaces, etc. You can correct these directly in the MAGIC-BOM.

Deleting an underscore, inserting a space etc. is often enough to get a result or to improve the result.

An MPN number is always optimal, since this is a unique and exact specification.

If no result is found under "Find component", you can search again with the MPN number, the SKU number or a description.

MPN and SKU number

MPN is short for Manufacturer Part Number. It is a unique number assigned by the manufacturer to identify individual products. Typically, a product's MPN number consists of a series of numbers and letters.

Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) means something like storage unit. The SKU number is therefore a number that is assigned to a product in order to identify the price, the product options and the manufacturer of the goods. A SKU number is not universal but may differ from provider to provider, since providers such as suppliers assign their own SKU numbers to manage their inventory. In the example, this number is e. g. called Digi-Key Part Number.

In the example opposite, the MPN number is: SN74HCT245PWR and the SKU number: 296-8404-1-ND.

A possible description, if the numbers are not known, could e. g. for this component be "IC NON-INVERT 5.5V 20TSSOP".

Superset

“Superset” refers to the excess components that we cannot use, but have to charge you. Often the question arises again and again how this excess comes about.

How is the the superset calculated?

The component belts containing the components are fed to the machine via so-called “feeders”, which are located in a magazine. However, the machine now requires a certain advance on the belts in order to be able to pull them in via the holes in the side using hooks.

Depending on the component size, this lead contains more or fewer components.
This lead, and with it the components, will unfortunately no longer be usable later.

In addition, a cover film must be removed from the component belt so that the component can be picked up by the machine. This happens before the point where the component is picked up by the machine. However, as soon as the cover film is removed, the components that are now exposed can no longer be used. However, these surplus components must be included in the calculation.

Why does my superset contain many components?

With an IC e. g. it can happen that only one component is used as an excess, since this is a relatively large component and the necessary lead and the uncovered area in the belt contain only one component.

With e. g. a resistor 0402, however, the number of components in the superset is higher, since there are relatively many and small components in the component belt.

You have selected the option "The components will be provided by me".

Under "Comments" in the "Component details" window, you can provide us with important information about the components you have provided.

If you provide your components yourself, pay attention to the type of packaging, availability and delivery time when selecting your components. We can only start with the actual assembly when all the necessary components are available.

You can often find the relevant packaging information from the various distributors. If this is not the case, you should definitely check this with your distributor before ordering.

- The components should be delivered in a machine-compatible production packaging, such as rod, tray, roll or reel.
Components that are not delivered in machine-appropriate production packaging cannot be assembled by us or in individual cases have to be repacked or assembled by hand for an additional fee (calculation according to the time required).

- For plugs, sockets and pin connectors, a placement aid / cap is absolutely necessary, so that they can be equipped by our automatic placement machines.

- Provide reeled goods as a contiguous section and avoid “multiple snippets”. In addition, a feed (> 24 mm) is necessary so that the straps on the machine can be setup.

- If you provide components, ensure that they have been properly stored. For older components where this has not been the case, this can lead to problems with the soldering joints. The components you provide must be delivered in a dry condition (see IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020D; IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033B.1).

- The assignment of provided components works on the basis of the BOM you provided, so please label the components with the appropriate name from the "References", "Package" and "Value" fields in the "Component information" section of the "Component details" field (e. g: C5, C7, C8, C10, C11), C / CO805 / 100nF).

- Components for different projects must be marked accordingly, for example they should also have the project name. Components that are used in different projects must not be present on a single reel section, but they have to be delivered separately with the desired excess amount because we may process different orders separately and on different machines.

Superset

The following applies to the superset:
Package 0603 or larger: 20% more components (min. however 10)
Package 0402 and 0201: 100% more components (min. however 20)

With high-value components can be dispensed with a excess amount, if these components are machine-compatible with appropriate reel feed or in rod or tray. If no reel feed is available, the typical excess quantity is 1-2 pieces more.

Although we conduct an incoming goods inspection to the best of our due care and diligence, please be advised that we are not liable for components delivered incorrectly or defective and consequential damages resulting from component placement.
